Jan 032014

I’m not a big New Year’s Resolutions person – I tend to make them all year long, sometimes I do well, sometimes not so much. However, the New Year is a great time to take a good look at your life, pray and examine areas that may need some work.

“Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the Lord!” Lamentations 3:40

One of my “resolutions” for 2014, is not to over commit myself! I see so many great projects that I can get involved with and I dive right in, only to get overwhelmed and struggle to fully meet my commitment. Which is honestly, what has happened with these 2 reviews. They are great products that I believe will help many of you, my readers – however, doing reviews is time consuming, and there’s lots of craziness going on in my life right now (more of that to come later! But let’s just say God has called us to step out in faith in some pretty radical obedience – and we’ve followed!).

A short disclaimer that I did receive both of these products free for the purpose of review, however, all opinions are solely mine and are provided to give you information to make a choice if these products are something for you to check out! So without further ado, here are my Reviews.

Weeding Out Wheat: A Simple, Scientific, Faith-Based Guide

It seems like health resolutions are common among most of our nation. Trying to get healthy and stay healthy is quite a challenge these days, and there are a myriad of diets, theories, and gimmicks out there to try to help you get healthy and lose weight.

Several years ago, in my pursuit to get healthy and have a baby I prayed for wisdom about what to do. God led me on an incredible journey that has transformed my life and that of my family (you can read about it here). One of the things that He showed me was that I am completely intolerant to wheat – as are many people today.

This book explains why.

The wheat we have available today, isn’t the wheat that Jesus ate, and it’s not even the same as the wheat our grandparents grew up eating. It’s been modified and hybridized many times over to the point that Luke & Trisha Gilkerson, the authors of this book, liken it to this:

To use an analogy used by some doctors, what if you had a species of dog that was bred in such a way it couldn’t survive in the wild anymore because it had to eat Purina Puppy Chow®?” (p. 19)

If you are wondering if a wheat-free (gluten-free) lifestyle might be right for you, I highly encourage you to check out this short but sweet book. It is born out of the Gilkerson’s own curiosity and skepticism that a wheat-free diet was a healthy choice, and also a desire to know if it was God-honoring and Biblical. The Gilkerson’s researched both scientific journals and the Bible to draw their conclusions.

One of the things I appreciated most about this book is that it isn’t heavy in medical jargon and complicated explanations – and where terminology is used it is easily explained. I’ve read several books on going this subject and this by far is the simplest read. I also appreciate that they cite their sources though, so if you’d like to follow-up on their research you have the ability to do so.

You can get your copy of Weeding Out Wheat on Amazon either in Kindle version, or in Paperback.

“This Is My Life” Planner

This Is My Life Planner

Full disclosure here: I’m NOT a planner person!!!! In fact when I first saw the opportunity to do a review for it, I dismissed it. However, when I read the full details of everything this planner included I decided I should check it out and give it a try!

It’s beautifully designed and laid out. Each week is undated so you can start using your planner whenever. It comes with a place to keep track of drinking enough water each day, a list of daily and weekly chores (which are different each week to try to help you keep your house clean), a place to list to-dos, reminders, and your meal plan.

For those of you into scrapbooking there is also an option for pages to help you plan your Scrapbook photos and pages based on what’s happening in your life as it happens. I think this is a terrific idea, though I’m not a scrapbooker at all.

It also contains several planners to help you plan your holiday celebrations. Melissa @ AVirtuousWoman.org has really put a lot of time and though into creating a great planner for the busy woman’s needs! There are also lots of different options available (say you don’t want the scrapbook plans, or already have your own holiday planner) to meet your needs and budget. The basic planner starts at just $4.95.

Check out all the great options here at “This is My Life” Planner.

I really love all that this planner has to offer. I have to admit though, that the key to using any planner is the discipline to actually look at it and use it. That is something we are working on in this household ;-).

My prayer is that your New Year is off to a great start in seeking after God’s Will and wisdom for you life!

I will be taking a couple of weeks off from blogging as my family takes some time to seek out God’s wisdom for our family in this season of life – and seek to follow Him wholeheartedly in obedience. I’ll leave you today with this song from Hillsong, which is my prayer right now.

Be blessed,
